MEET THE ARTIST

Yasmine Young is a fiber artist whose work is deeply rooted in her cultural heritage as a Native Hawaiian. She explores the intersection of tradition and experimentation by integrating shibori—a non-Hawaiian resist-dyeing technique—through a distinctly Hawaiian lens. Her practice reflects a dialogue between cultures, honoring lineage while embracing adaptation.

With a fascination for both removing and reintroducing color, Yasmine works across a range of mediums including screen printing, resist dyeing, sewing, and pattern-making. Through these processes, she creates layered, tactile pieces that evoke the textures, rhythms, and natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands.

At the heart of her work is a commitment to cultural memory. Yasmine’s art acknowledges that cultural significance can be diminished or erased over time, yet it insists on the importance of remembering one’s roots. Her pieces serve as both personal and collective reminders of identity, ancestry, and the enduring connection to heritage.
